Experience the Mackenzie River or as the locals Aboriginal people call it, the Deh Cho (Big River). Learn about Sir Alexander Mackenzie’s infamous voyage of 1789.
Learn about the important role the river plays to the local Aboriginal peoples. Overnight in the community of Fort Providence spending the night out on the land in a traditional trapper’s cabin!
If that isn’t enough, on our trip to and from Fort Providence (from Yellowknife), you will get the opporunity to view wild Wood Bison as large herds can be seen grazing along the highway, particularly when we travel thru the Mackenzie Bison Sanctuary.
We partner with Vandell Venture Tours who provide some great Mackenzie River experiences!
View wildlife, boat on the Mackenzie River, overnight in a traditional trapper’s cabin, guides will cook traditional foods for you, tour Fort Providence, visit with local arts & crafts persons and see some amazing beading and sewing and more!!

Depart Yellowknife – 9:00 am
12:00 pm to 6:00 pm – Fort Providence & Mackenzie River Experience
Return Yellowknife – 9:00 pm
Overnight Option
Day One
9:00 am – Depart Yellowknife
12:00 pm to 5:00 pm – Mackenzie River experience
6:00 pm to 8:00 pm – dinner
Overnight out on the land in traditional cabin
Day Two
8:00 am – Breakfast out on the land
12:00 pm – Lunch back in the community
5:00 pm – Return to Yellowknife
